Letters patent granting the ship Italy permission to depart Philadelphia, 1837 December 20.

President Martin Van Buren gives permission to John Dunham, master of the ship Italy carrying dry goods bound for the East Indies, to depart Philadelphia after he attests that the ship belongs to a U.S. citizen. These letters patent were signed by Van Buren and Secretary of State John Forsyth, countersigned by Samuel Swartwout (collector at the port of New York), and notarized by Jacob B. Wood.
